Two Month Check-up

Hey big boy! You are weighing in at a healthy 11 pounds, 10 ounces and measuring 23 inches long. Your head circumference is 38 centimeters. You got two shots and recovered really well. You got the following vaccines:
  • DTaP: Diphtheria, tetanus, and acellular pertussis vaccine
  • Hib: Haemophilus influenzae type b vaccine
  • IPV: Inactivated poliovirus vaccine
  • PCV: Pneumococcal conjugate vaccine
  • Rota: Rotavirus vaccine
I didn't even cry this time!! Dede and Daddy were both able to come to this appointment. Dr. Lockridge said you were very healthy. He was very informative and understanding of my concerns... especially about your constipation. He did not recommend changing formula since you are on the most appropriate (soy). He gave us a prescription for lactulose. Hopefully this will help! I also asked about water in your ears because I always seem to get them when during your bath (don't worry about it), giving you tylenol after your shots (why not?), and your feeding plan/food introduction (4 months or older).

I'm a wreck...

I am really feeling the weight of going back to work today. I realized that I need to send a box of diapers and a can of formula to Dede's house because she will be keeping you. She will likely need more diapers and formula at her house than we will need at our house. This fact really upsets me. Am I happy that she will be taking care of you? ABSOLUTELY, Dede is an extension of me. I trust her with my life... with you. Am I sad that I'm not the one that will see your milestones first, I'm not the one that will be teaching you every little thing along the way, I'm not the one that will comfort you, love on you and see your smiles first hand all day? You have no idea. I can't seem to stop crying tonight. I've spent the last 8 weeks in denial about what has to happen on Monday. On Monday, I'll give you a bottle around 6:30. By 7:00, you'll be full and very happy. I'll play with you until the bitter end at 7:50. Sunday night, I'll shower, pack your bag, hold you till I can't, and pray for comfort and peace. I want to be as ready as possible when I wake up Monday morning so that I don't have to waste any time in the shower or drying my hair. I'll be a hot mess. I'll probably freak you out a little. I hope you understand that I'm working to provide the life you deserve. You deserve opportunities to succeed, go to college, land a great job and a better wife, to have no limitations on what you desire, to have what I had growing up. Hudson, I love you. I don't know that I'll ever get over having to leave you in the mornings.

Week 8

Where has the time gone?? You are getting so big and strong! You won't officially be 2 months old until the 30th. You are still not a big fan of tummy time. You love your activity mat. You are really beginning to like the swing too. You are so interactive... more and more every day. Your favorite songs are "you are my sunshine" and "skinamarinky dinky dink". Sometimes you look like you're going to talk at any moment but I know we're a few months away from that.

You've had a lot of tummy trouble for the last couple of weeks. I'm excited that we have a dr's appointment on Friday so that we can get some long-term solutions. We weighed you earlier this week on the mail scale at my friend's store... 11.2 pounds. Wow. You are still wearing 0-3 month clothes and size 1 diapers. We are still using diapers from all the baby shower gifts! You still look small to me when you're dressed but chunky during bath time.... which you LOVE. We are currently on a 4 hour schedule starting at 6:30 am. You are still waking up around 3 or 4. I'm ready for that to stop by next Monday when I go back to work.

You are such a good baby. I am amazed by you every day. Your daddy and I are so helplessly in love with you.

Week 7

Week 7 was really kind of a blur. I didn't take nearly enough pictures... seriously.. these are all the pictures I took this week...
You are making more funny faces this week.

You look so grown up in dark colors.

Mrs. Holli loved feeding you at bible study

Mrs. Katie finally got to meet you!

Hanging out at Dede & Pawpaw's

Mrs. Kelly was so excited to meet you!

Granna had to get some love too

Aunt Beth finally got to hold you too

Aunt Rachel trying to help you poop - you loved it!

Milk drunk :)

Your first football game - we went to see Lexy cheer -
you loved looking at all the lights!

You are such a sweet and happy baby. You sleep pretty well... most nights. Your nap times are shorter than last week. When you are awake, you really enjoy playing on your activity mat. You seem to be improving your hand-eye coordination every day. I could watch you play forever. You smile so much and it even sounds like you laugh sometimes.

Week 6

We spent the weekend (Saturday through Monday) at Dede & Pawpaw's because our air conditioner broke. They loved getting to spend so much time with you. It was nice to have so many helping hands but by the end of the weekend, I missed you... even though I never left you because you spent a lot of time in other arms. I love being your mom and taking care of you.

We started week 6 with our first family appearance at our church, Harvestfield. Everyone was so very excited to meet you. We sat in the back in case you got fussy. You slept through the music and half of the message. When you woke up a little fussy, I took you to the nursery and visited with the ladies that will be taking care of you.

Monday was a very special Labor Day. You met your great grandmother and the rest of the Morgan side of the family. Everyone was excited for their turn to hold you. We had planned a Labor Day party at our house but our air conditioner broke and it was raining, so we met everyone at Uncle Sam's for lunch.

You and your Great-Grandma Payne.
She couldn't take her eyes off you!

Tuesday, I had my last checkup with Dr. Godfree. He was so sweet to take a picture with you.

You are finally enjoying taking a bath. In fact, sometimes I put you in the bath if you are fussy and won't really settle... you love it.

We had dinner at Granna's on Wednesday night and everyone was excited to see you... of course.

Your newest favorite thing is being a tree frog.... This position calms you instantly and for a long time. Most of your naps for the past couple of days were spent on your stomach (supervised of course - the current recommendation is for you to sleep on your back.) When I was a baby, doctors said for babies to sleep on their bellies. It has been very amusing to compare the differences in childcare over the last 29 years.

Today(Thursday) has been harder than usual to get you to sleep and stay asleep. I have no idea why. I hope that it means that you'll sleep better tonight than you have been. Your cries are changing every day. You used to have a small quiet cry, but now you can really crank it up and put a voice to it and it hurts my heart. You are still so small! You wore your last newborn size outfit today. I swear it fit when I put it on you this morning... but I thought I was going to have to cut it off of your little noggin tonight. I'm worried you won't be able to wear most of your clothes! Before you were born, we expected a really BIG baby and so all the clothes we bought are big. You have some precious summery outfits that you'll never wear because the weather is already turning cooler. I'm especially heartbroken over one outfit that has blue and white striped terrycloth shorts and a white shirt with embroidered sea creatures. Thankfully, Aunt Rachel let us borrow lots of David's clothes to fill in the gaps.

Friday in Birmingham with Dede!

....more than you'll ever know!

1 Month Check-up

Hey big boy!

You weigh 9 pounds, 9 ounces. You are now 21 inches long (the Dr's office measures from heel to head but the hospital measures from toe to head). I told Dr. Quizon I was concerned about your skin. Your scalp is a little scaly around your hair line/forehead and you've had what I thought was "baby acne" since the "newborn rash" went away. Apparently, it's not acne after all. You have the beginning stages of eczema which signals that you are allergic to something. He asked us lots of questions about family history of allergies and your environment and whether or not you were showing symptoms of asthma. There is no family history of allergies as far as we know. The only asthma history we know of is Lexy and Coleman. Since we've already been playing around with your formula, we decided to start there. You most likely have a milk allergy and will need soy formula. He also told us to watch out for perfumes and detergents. The allergy thing really caught me off guard and then you had to get a shot and your PKU re-test. I cried way more than you did. Hopefully we will find the source of your allergic reaction very soon.

Hopefully the next visit will be better!

One month pictures

I did a mini photo shoot for your one month birthday...

I used this one for our Labor Day party invitation - We are planning a party for Daddy's aunts/the Morgan side of the family so they can all meet you :)
