Daddy was at work and I had been asleep for about an hour and a half when I felt a gush. Did my water break or did I just pee on myself? I called the hospital to ask what I should do... even though I knew what they would say... I was headed to the hospital. I called my mom. She and dad were here to get my by 2:00. In the meantime, I texted daddy, packed last minute stuff (toiletries, clothes for daddy) and rechecked everything I had already packed.... twice.
By 2:30, we were checking in to the hospital where I work (Gadsden Regional).
They did a litmus test to check for amniotic fluid and it was negative. I didn't believe the test. The policy is to keep patients for observation for a couple of hours and continue to check periodically. The second test was "inconclusive" so they did a more thorough test to send to the lab. It came back positive!! We knew we were staying then. I texted Daddy again:
Things started moving pretty fast after that. I was moved to a labor and delivery room (367) and started on an IV of Pitocin to induce labor at 5:20 AM. The contractions started within an hour and were pretty bearable until around 9:30AM. I asked for some pain medicine and they gave me Demerol, then the epidural. I don't remember much after that! By that time, your daddy was there (which made me feel so much better!) and exhausted from working all night. We both slept/slipped into a coma for about 4 hours.
They continued to measure my contractions, checking for progress periodically. By 7:30PM, I had dilated to an 8 and stalled. Dr. Godfree decided it was time for a C-Section. Somewhere in the back of my head, I always thought I would have a C-Section so I was ok with it. After the decision was made, things moved very quickly.

Daddy went to the nursery with you to get you cleaned up and assessed by the nurses. Once they were finished, he brought you to me in recovery. That was a very special time for me. We got to talk and cry and stare at you. You were a perfect, 7 pound, 2 ounce, 20 inch long blessing that forever changed our lives.

| Aunt Rachel was very happy that you were born on a Saturday so that she could be there for the whole thing. I'm so glad she was there too :) |
After recovery, I slept... for a very long time. They moved me to a different room. I was so out of it from the pain medicine. I couldn't stay awake but I was talking, "I want to be awake. I don't want to miss this. I want to hold him". DeDe, Pops, and Aunt Rachel stayed for a little while and held you.
Hudson,
I want you to know you are loved beyond measure. I can't even think about your birth story without bursting into tears. You changed our world for the better from the minute we saw the pregnancy test.
We love you,
Mommy and Daddy
